Calculator is a prediction-based alien. Once encounter cards are selected, it may choose to equalize the two cards. If both are revealed as attack cards, the higher card is reduced by the value of the lower card - if a 10 and a 06 are revealed, the 10 would become a 04 (10 - 6), while the 06 would remain a 06.

Strategy[]

Strengths Weaknesses
Can have significant effect on encounter totals Can be outsmarted

As Calculator[]

Calculator's power has the greatest effect when the two attacks revealed are of similar values, such as a 12 and a 10. If the two cards have very different values, the effect is minimal. Because of this, Calculator may wish to use its power upon playing a slightly-below average card such as a 06, while perhaps not using its power upon playing a 14. The key is to guess whether the opponent's card will be higher or lower - the power can easily backfire.

Against Calculator[]

Just like the power itself, Calculator's opponents have to carefully predict what they think the enemy will play. Paying attention to the decisions made in previous encounters may help. It is generally safe to play very high cards such as the 40 or 30, since only equally high cards will have a significant effect when equalized against them, and of course Calculator will probably not equalize upon playing such a high card.

Matchups[]

Seeker can prevent Calculator from being sneaky, but it's not as strong against Calculator as against some other aliens. Calculator generally dislikes aliens with card-altering effects such as Mirror or Sorcerer, as the decision to equalize becomes even more complicated.

Edition Power Text History
Eon You have the power to equalize. When you are one of the two players in a challenge, once cards are played down but before they are revealed, you may declare "equalize". If you do so and both cards are revealed as Attack cards, the value of the higher one is reduced by the value of the lower one. (Thus if a 15 and an 8 are played, the 15 becomes worth only 7, but the 8 is still worth 8.) The challenge is then concluded normally. Defenseless on a jungle world, the order of Calculators grew adroit at ensnaring their powerful but bungling competitors. Now adept at turning strength back against itself, they study the prospects of galactic empire, trusting that other grosser beings will not also grow calculating.
Mayfair You have the power to equalize. When you are a main player, once cards are played down but before they are revealed, you may declare "equalize". If you do so and both cards are revealed as Attack Cards, the value of the higher one is reduced by double the value of the lower one. (Thus if a 15 and an 8 are played, the 15 becomes worth only -1, but the 8 is still worth 8.) This calculation occurs after the effects of Kickers. Defenseless on a jungle world, the order of the Calculators grew adroit at ensnaring their powerful but bungling competitors. CEO You have the power to equalize. When you are one of the two aliens in a challenge, once pods are launched you may declare "equalize". If you do so and both pods are revealed as Attack pods, the value of the higher pod is reduced by the value of the lower pod. . So, if a 10 and a 4 are played, the 10 becomes 10 - 4 = 6. And the 4 is still worth 4. The encounter is then concluded normally. Defenseless on a jungle world, the order of Calculators grew adroit at ensnaring their powerful but bungling competitors.
