The Mayfair Games edition of Cosmic Encounter was released in 1991. It was largely similar to the Eon Productions edition in terms of rules and components, but with some minor rules adjustments (for example, flares in this edition were discarded after one use) and supported up to to 6 players on its own. It also added a significant number of new aliens.

Aliens[]

This edition included 49 aliens:

Expansions[]

  • More Cosmic Encounter (1992): A large expansion that included 54 more aliens, bringing the total to 103, and reintroduced many variants from the Eon edition's expansions such as Kicker cards, moons and Lucre.
  • Simply Cosmic (1995): A "simplified" version of Cosmic Encounter that included only 8 aliens and components for only 4 players. However, the player components were of different colors than those of the base set, so it is possible to combine Simply Cosmic and the base set to play games with up to 10 players.
  • Even More Cosmic Encounter/A Bit More Cosmic Encounter (????): A planned expansion that was never released, likely due to Mayfair Games' temporary shutdown in 1997.
  • Cosmic Novas (????): Another planned expansion that was never released.
